Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the intelligent edge platform for securing and delivering digital experiences, proudly announces that it has been named as one of Washingtonian's 50 Great Places to Work. Selected companies appear in the May issue of the magazine which are for sale on area newsstands starting today.

This year's 50 winning workplaces were chosen on the basis of such measures as: generous pay and benefits, interesting and meaningful work, great work/life balance, opportunities to learn and grow, commitment to charity and community, and the recognition and respect given to employees. Winners were chosen after editors reviewed nearly 200 companies and more than 7,500 employee surveys. The final determinations relied heavily on the scores given by a company's employees.

“Creating a space where employees can collaborate, innovate and succeed is an essential tenet of Akamai’s commitment to ensuring a great place to work,” said James Gemmell, executive vice president and chief human resources officer. “At Akamai, we are committed to ensuring that our employees are able to reach their full potential in a welcoming, inclusive environment where they are treated with dignity and respect.”

Akamai’s Reston, Virginia space opened in 2003 and has 160 employees. The Washington D.C. and northern Virginia team supports commercial companies, government and military customers using innovative approaches to solve their digital challenges. Akamai’s globally distributed intelligent edge platform makes them faster, smarter, and seamless while securing content and users from a growing set of cyber security threats. Its Zero Trust Security approach protects an enterprise’s attack surface and network and security architectures to meet the changing needs of a digitally evolving world.

“Our team designs, develops, implements, operates and otherwise supports cutting-edge technologies that solve tough customer challenges,” said Danielle Mouritzen, senior director, government services and Reston site lead. “We have an innovative and collaborative culture with an emphasis on personal health and balance. On any given day you can find such fun events like Waffle Day and Pi Day, friendly competition via golf tournaments and office brackets, or employee resource group get togethers that promote a diverse work environment. And we give back to our community by supporting 9/11 Community Care Days and inspiring STEM education through our Bring Your Kids to Work Day.”
